Summary

The Music Director sets the Sacred Musical Tone for the Parish as an integral part of the Pastoral team.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Maintains a high level of Liturgical understanding and execution in the tri-lingual parish environment,
  • Selects music and musicians,
  • Teaches the assembly new music, both traditional and contemporary, that reflects the Liturgical Calendar,
  • Accompanies and provides music consistent with scriptures,
  • Recruits and trains Cantors, musicians, Chant Choir and adult & youth Choir members,
  • Prepares and manages the Music Budget,
  • Cooperates with and guides the various music ministries in the parish,
  • Professionally maintains the musical equipment for the Church,
  • Maintains organized and updated music files,
  • Attends staff and liturgy committee meetings,
  • Maintains professional competency within greater local musical community,
  • Works with staff members to coordinate liturgy and rehearsal schedules, bulletin announcements, etc.
  • Provide materials for and lead First Friday Adoration
  • Communicates regularly with the Haitian and Spanish choirs,
  • Accompanies and works with liturgist for weddings and funerals, unless family chooses otherwise,
  • Meets with the Pastor and Operations Manager regularly for evaluation and planning.

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Competent musician on keyboard, organ and grand piano,
  • Experienced choral director, all ages,
  • Professional Vocal capabilities,
  • Demonstrable Catholic Liturgical understanding,
  • A. degree in Music; preferred Master’s degree or equivalent,
  • Able to cope in a large parish environment.
