The System Administrator (SA) is responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software and related infrastructure. This individual participates in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the IT solution space. This individual ensures that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational values, enabling staff, volunteers, and partners to further the mission of the Church.  This individual serves an active role in IT projects. These activities include the definition of needs, benefits, costs, and technical strategy; research and development; technical analysis, design, testing, rolling-out, and ongoing support processes.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design and documentation of IT systems
  • Ongoing maintenance of server and client hardware and OS
  • Configuration and ongoing support of Office 365 services
  • Ongoing maintenance of network switching, routing, and firewalling components
  • Provide tiers I/II/III support and troubleshooting of end user and backend system issues
  • Designs, develops, tests, and documents programs that automate routine tasks
  • Asset tracking and inventory of all IT hardware and software licenses
  • Operation and ongoing maintenance of VoIP telephony system and CCTV
  • Recommend and engineer new technologies for ongoing lifecycle
  • Driving Change, Incident, and Problem Management processes
  • Training and instruction for system users both in-person and remotely

 

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Bachelor degree in technical major like computer science, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 4-years system administration experience in a medium to large enterprise
  • Systems Administration/System Engineer certification in Microsoft and/or VMware
  • Expert understanding of Microsoft on-premises and O365 products/services
  • Very solid understanding of basic networking protocols (DNS, DHCP, ICMP, TCP/IP), switching, routing, firewalling, and load balancing
  • Experience in virtual server environment. VMware or Hyper-V acceptable
  • Experience practicing ITIL processes
  • Experience supporting video teleconferencing solutions. Polycom and/or Skype preferred
  • Familiarity with Linux, Apache, MySQL, php (LAMP/WAMP)

 

Complexity and Problem Solving:
The position deals with a variety of user-facing and backend design engineering. Strong recommendations are expected from this role. User and backend issue are can be complex and require experienced decision making.

 

Communications and Interpersonal Contacts:
Interpret and discuss technical information with those not familiar with technical concepts or terminology. Leverage an ability to bridge the gap for non-technical users while instilling comfort in the user and providing exceptional customer support. Regularly provide advice and recommend actions involving complex issues in a way that is easily understood in both verbal and written forms.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort:
Responsibilities rarely require working evenings and weekends, at times with little advanced notice. Travel within the counties encompasses by the Diocese of Venice in Florida may be required on a monthly basis. Lifting of client PCs, monitors, server, storage, and networking hardware up to 75 lbs.
