Peace & Social Justice

Environmental Justice Commission

The Environmental Justice Commission of the Diocese of Venice in Florida, working in concert with the teachings of the Church Fathers (Magisterium) and Catholic social teaching,

  • advocates for constructive public social policies
  • conveys, through various means these teachings to the faithful in the ten-county Diocese
  • engages them and others in personal and corporate actions which will help to preserve and enhance the environment

EJP seeks to educate and motivate Catholics in the Diocese of Venice to a deeper reverence and respect for God’s creation, and to engage parishes in activities aimed at dealing with environmental problems, particularly as they affect the poor. EJP acts as a resource for parishes.

“I invite all believers to raise a fervent prayer to God, the all-powerful Creator and the Father of mercies, so that all men and women may take to heart the urgent appeal:  If you want to cultivate peace, protect creation.”-Pope Benedict XVI, 2010 World Day of Peace
