Local Priest named Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA
Venice, Fla., February 21, 2025 – The Most Rev. Frank J. Dewane, Bishop of the Diocese of Venice in Florida, expressed his gratitude to His Holiness Pope Francis for the appointment of Rev. Gregg M. Caggianelli, a priest of the Diocese of Venice, as Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA.
Rev. Caggianelli was ordained to the priesthood on October 25, 2002, by Most Rev. John J. Nevins, then the Bishop of the Diocese of Venice, at Epiphany Cathedral, Venice, Florida. His first assignment as Parochial Vicar was at Incarnation Parish in Sarasota. During that time Father Caggianelli also served as Associate Director and later Director of Vocations and Seminary Formation in the Diocese of Venice. Having completed his assignment at Incarnation Parish, he was appointed on November 15, 2010, as Administrator of St. Francis Xavier Parish in Fort Myers. Father Caggianelli has served on the Presbyteral Council and various committees for the Diocese of Venice. Since June 2013, Father Caggianelli has served at the St. Vincent de Paul Regional Seminary in Boynton Beach, Florida, in various capacities, most recently as Vice Rector & Dean of Human Formation.
Bishop-elect Caggianelli served in the United States Air Force on active duty (1991-1996) and in the reserves (1996-present). He has also served as a reserve chaplain since 2002.
Bishop Dewane congratulates Bishop-elect Caggianelli on his appointment to the Episcopate and prays that his ministry be filled with blessings and inspiration as he undertakes this new responsibility serving our Lord and our nation.
