Religious Education

The Diocese of Venice in Florida promotes an approach to catechesis that is parish oriented and family sensitive. It calls us to proclaim the message of Jesus, foster community, prepare for worship, and motivates to Christian witness and service.

The most successful parish religious education programs are directed by fully qualified personnel. A Director of Religious Education holds a Master’s Degree in the field of Theology. A Coordinator of Religious Education holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Theology. An Assistant of Religious Education holds at least a Basic Certificate in Catechesis from the Diocese of Venice. Each Pastor is ultimately responsible for catechesis in the parish and hires personnel for the total Christian formation.

The Office of Religious Education offers policies and guidelines for hiring catechetical personnel, celebration of sacraments, and catechetical curriculum. Events and meetings for Directors of Religious Education, Adult Faith Formation, and the RCIA are held throughout the year.

Diocesan Catechist Certifications are offered through the Diocesan Institute for Catholic Studies and Formation.

Paradise: A Video Series For Parents is also offered through the Diocesan Institute in English and Spanish. To receive a Parish or Catholic School code for free online streaming, please contact the Department of Education.
