Cruel and Dangerous Abortion Amendment!
Vote No on Amendment 4!
On April 1, 2024, the Florida Supreme Court ruled to allow placement of the “Amendment to Limit Government Interference with Abortion” on the November 2024 ballot, which will appear as Amendment 4. Prior to ballet placement, Florida’s Supreme Court reviews the language of constitutional amendments proposed by initiative to determine whether it is clear and unambiguous and covers only a single subject.
In response to the court’s decision, Michael B. Sheedy, executive director of the Florida Conference of Catholic Bishops (FCCB), issued the following statement:
“We are greatly dismayed that the Florida Supreme Court did not reject this deceptively worded amendment, and that it will appear on the November 2024 ballot. Under the guise of limiting government interference, this extreme ballot initiative would legalize full-term abortion, including when the baby is capable of feeling pain. If passed, the amendment to our state constitution would put the most innocent of human lives in grave danger until the moment of birth and would eliminate gains made over the past several decades to protect women from the harms of abortion, including health and safety protocols at abortion facilities. The Florida Conference of Catholic Bishops will work hard to oppose this cruel and dangerous amendment and urge all Floridians to vote “no” on Amendment 4.”
The Florida Bishops then issued a statement urging “all Floridians of goodwill to stand against the legalization of late-term abortion and oppose the abortion amendment,” saying that “in doing so, we will not only protect the weakest, most innocent, and defenseless of human life among us but also countless women throughout the state from the harms of abortion.”

¡Cruel y Peligrosa Enmienda sobre el Aborto!

El 1 de abril de 2024, la Corte Suprema de Florida dictaminó permitir la colocación de la “Enmienda para limitar la interferencia del gobierno con el aborto” en la boleta electoral de noviembre de 2024, que aparecerá como Enmienda 4. Antes de la colocación del boleta, la Corte Suprema de Florida revisa el lenguaje de las enmiendas constitucionales propuestas por iniciativa para determinar si es claro e inequívoco y cubre un solo tema.
En respuesta a la decisión de la corte, Michael B. Sheedy, director ejecutivo de la Conferencia de Obispos Católicos de Florida (FCCB), emitió la siguiente declaración:
“Estamos muy consternados de que la Corte Suprema de Florida no rechazará esta enmienda redactada engañosamente, y que aparecerá en la boleta electoral de noviembre de 2024. Con el pretexto de limitar la interferencia del gobierno, esta iniciativa electoral extrema legalizaría el aborto a término, incluso cuando el bebé es capaz de sentir dolor. Si se aprueba, la enmienda a la constitución de nuestro estado pondría en grave peligro las vidas humanas más inocentes hasta el momento del nacimiento y eliminaría los avances logrados en las últimas décadas para proteger a las mujeres de los daños del aborto, incluidos los protocolos de salud y seguridad en los centros de aborto. La Conferencia de Obispos Católicos de la Florida trabajará arduamente para oponerse a esta cruel y peligrosa enmienda e instará a todos los floridanos a votar “no” a la Enmienda 4″.
