Parish and Catholic Charities host Easter luncheon for homeless

St. William Parish and Catholic Charities in Collier County joined forces to provide an Easter luncheon for the homeless in Naples on April 7, 2026. More than 100 were welcomed with a warm meal and compassionate hearts at the Judy Sullivan Family Resource Center. Staff and volunteers prepared and served the meals. Each person received a meal, take-home food, a gift card and beautifully decorated Easter Eggs. The luncheon is one of several supported by the St. William Homeless Outreach Program for Empowerment (HOPE) which extends a compassionate hand to those experiencing homelessness in Naples, including providing hot meals to the homeless each week, bicycles for transportation and more.

Sarasota Parish Divine Mercy Celebration

St. Thomas More Parish, 2506 Gulf Gate Drive, Sarasota will celebrate Divine Mercy Sunday, April 12, 2026. St. Faustina, who experienced visions of Jesus, wrote in her diary: “the soul that will go to Confession and receive Holy Communion (on Divine Mercy Sunday) shall obtain the complete forgiveness of sins and punishment.” This grace is similar to the grace received at baptism and greater than a plenary indulgence. Mass begins at 3 p.m., and will be preceded by a recitation of the Holy Rosary at 2 p.m., Praying of the Chaplet of Divine Mercy through song at 2:30 p.m. The Sacrament of Reconciliation will be offered beginning at 2 p.m.

Theology on Tap April 16 in University Park

The next gathering of Theology on Tap, a very special night of fellowship, faith, and fun with fellow Catholic young adults from across the Diocese, is 7 – 9 p.m., April 16, 2026, at Oak & Stone, 5405 University Parkway, University Park. There will be a question and answer session with Jim Gontis, Diocese of Venice Director of Evangelization. Don’t miss this chance to grow in faith, connect with others, and enjoy an evening out with friends old and new. Foundation grant applications open

The grant cycle is now open for two different community grants from the Catholic Community Foundation. To be considered by the Board of Directors for a grant, the project must clearly be aligned with the intention of the specific fund. The Marilyn Brummer Fund concentrates its efforts on working with entities that are involved in anti-human trafficking assistance, assistance for single mothers, and the Catholic Charities Children’s Center, which is dedicated to enhancing the lives of children in the Dunbar community in Fort Myers. Programs, projects, and entities must be located in, and associated with, the Diocese of Venice in Florida. Applications are due by May 4, 2026.
The Carey Family Grant provides up to $4,000 in support for critical needs that might go unfunded within the Diocese of Venice in Florida at Catholic Parishes, Catholic Missions, Catholic Schools, or a program or ministry of the Diocese of Venice. Applications are due by May 4.

Ignatian Preached Retreat at OLPH May 8-11

Our Lady of Perpetual Help Retreat Center in Venice is hosting an Ignatian Preached Retreat May 8-11, 2026. This three-night silent retreat will introduce participants to the great themes of the Spiritual Exercises in a group setting. The schedule includes conferences each day, daily Mass, and an opportunity to meet at least once with the retreat director for Confession and/or spiritual direction. Conference topics center on Ignatian spirituality, prayer, and discernment. Total cost is $525 per person for a private room and $360 per person for a shared room (retreatant to locate appropriate roommate where silence can be maintained). Diocese of Venice Totus Tuus Missionary Opportunity for Summer 2026

The Diocese of Venice is now accepting applications for college-aged young adults to serve as Totus Tuus Missionaries for the 2026 Parish evangelization and catechesis Summer Program. This role involves traveling in teams to approximately seven parishes throughout the Diocese, leading catechetical sessions for children and youth. Responsibilities include teaching the Catholic Faith using the Totus Tuus curriculum, facilitating activities, including skits and songs, working collaboratively as a team, teaching about the Mass, leading Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, discussion groups for teenagers and Evening Prayer. This is a paid position. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and a High School graduate and must be available for the complete program schedule, May 20 – July 24, 2026. Prison Ministry volunteers needed throughout Diocese

Join the team of Diocesan volunteers who enter county jails and state prisons within the 10-county Diocese of Venice for pastoral outreach, to distribute the Eucharist and facilitate programs. Priests, Deacons, and lay volunteers are encouraged to assist in this ministry. Volunteers will first participate in an orientation program before entering the facility and will shadow experienced volunteers until they feel comfortable. Times and days vary by facility. Christmas 2025 – Diocese celebrates Liturgical Season

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came to be through him, and without him nothing came to be. What came to be through him was life, and this life was the light of the human race; the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” John 1:1-5

The prologue to the Gospel of John was read on Christmas Day at churches throughout the world, reminding all that the birth of Jesus Christ was from God, bringing forth life, a light of the human race.

This moment was celebrated throughout the Diocese of Venice, most significantly through the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.

Bishop Frank J. Dewane celebrated a pre-recorded TV Mass for the Homebound from Our Lady of Mercy Parish in Boca Grande. This hour-long Christmas Mass reaches thousands who are homebound and unable to attend Mass.

During this Mass, Bishop Dewane said we are individually called to magnify, to reflect, and to become the light of Christ out in the world.

“Christ is that light that makes you and I shine ever brighter, because we follow Him, living the grace the Lord gives to us,” Bishop Dewane said. “May you be blessed this Christmas Season to magnify that light of Jesus Christ and be conscious of the fact we need to do this to overcome the darkness that is before us.”

Bishop Dewane also focused on the Prologue of the Gospel of John during the Dec. 18 gathering of young adults for Theology on Tap at Oak & Stone in University Park. At that time, the Bishop stressed the importance of reflecting upon the words of the Gospel readings and how doing so will help one grow in an understanding and relationship with the Lord. The Bishop later fielded questions from the 50 or so young adults who attended this monthly gathering.

The manger, or Nativity scene, symbolizes the celebratory focus of the Christmas Season – the birth of Jesus Christ. Several Diocesan Parishes, and each Catholic school, took time to have a retelling of the birth of Jesus with young children and in some cases with live animals.

For example, St. Michael Parish in Wauchula held a living Nativity play on Dec. 20, which included a donkey, horses and many angels and shepherds. This community celebration was organized by the religious sisters who serve the Parish, the Sister Servants of the Lord the Virgin of Matara, and included a festival and the distribution of gifts for the children in the area.

St. John XXIII Parish in Fort Myers hosted a “Lessons & Carols” and “A Night with Santa” celebration in the courtyard between the Church and Parish Life Center as families sat on blankets and children were encouraged to wear their holiday pajamas. This celebration included the youth offering a Nativity play and other performances, a visit from St. Nicholas as well as lots of festive treats.

Christmas is also a time to help others, so donations for the needy were collected and distributed. The most common form of collecting items for needy children is through an Angel Tree, where the ornaments are a wish list item for a child or family.

Diocesan Catholic school students spent a portion of December in preparation for Christmas with pageants, recitals, concerts, parties, and other fun, such as creating handmade presents for family members or building and decorating gingerbread houses. In the midst of all of this, the students continued to learn language arts, mathematics, religion, art, science and more, while also be educated about the true meaning of Christmas, including bringing the love of Christ that is in their hearts, out to the world.

Examples of this effort included collecting and donating gifts to needy children throughout the region. Students also visited nursing homes to bring holiday cheer to the elderly who are often alone during this time of year.

Appointment

Father Christopher Uhl, O.M.V., appointed as Parochial Vicar at San Pedro Parish in North Port effective Dec. 3, 2025.

Priest dies

Father Marcin Koziola, a priest of the Diocese of Venice since 2005, died Nov. 21, 2025, at his private residence in North Port, at the age of 45. Father Koziola was Ordained to the Priesthood on May 25, 2005, at Epiphany Cathedral in Venice. Father served at the following Parishes as Parochial Vicar: St. Joseph, Bradenton (2005-2006); St. John the Evangelist, Naples (2006-2010); St. John XXIII, Fort Myers (2010-2015); Our Lady of Lourdes, Venice (2015-2019). Father also served as Administrator of Holy Cross Parish in Palmetto from 2019-2022. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated by Bishop Frank J. Dewane on Nov. 29, 2025, at St. John the Evangelist Parish in Naples. Please pray for the repose of the soul of Father Koziola and the consolation of his family. May his soul and all the souls of the faithful departed through the mercy of God, rest in eternal peace.

New chapel doors blessed

On Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 27, 2025, Father Thomas Carzon, OMV, blessed the new Chapel doors at San Pedro Parish in North Port prior to the morning Mass. “Enter His gates with thanksgiving!” (Psalm 100:4). Father offered thanks to those who made and installed the doors, as well as for all who will enter. “Jesus himself is the gate, the way, the door through which we enter into life and have communion with the Father.”

Students make blankets, collect coats for homeless

Students at St. Martha Catholic School in Sarasota have been making blankets and collecting coats as part of a service project. These items were donated Nov. 21, 2025, to Resurrection House to help provide some warmth this Holiday Season for those who are less fortunate.

Nostra Aetate 60th Anniversary Symposium Dec. 6 and 7

The Catholic-Jewish Dialogue of Collier County, a longstanding Southwest Florida interfaith partnership, is hosting a panel of distinguished theologians, professors and clerics, including Bishop Frank J. Dewane, to discuss the impact of Nostra Aetate, the historic Catholic document that changed 20 centuries of Catholic-Jewish relations. The two-day symposium, titled “Nostra Aetate – 60 years: A new path for Catholic-Jewish relations,” will be held at 2 p.m., Dec. 6, 2025, at Ave Maria University, 5050 Ave Maria Blvd., Ave Maria, and 2 p.m., Dec. 7 at the Nina Iser Jewish Cultural Center, 4720 Pine Ridge Road, Naples. WARNING – Text/Email Scam Alert

Parishioners have received text/email messages from people pretending to be clergy – including Bishop Frank J. Dewane – or Parish/school staff, requesting donations in the form of gift cards and/or wire transfers. The scam often claims that the priest, Bishop, or staff member is in need of gift cards or money to aid a sick child, relative, or parishioner. It is Diocesan policy that neither the Bishop, nor priests or staff request donations in the form of gift cards, PayPal, MoneyGram, etc. There is an established process for how to make donations and participate in the life of the Diocese, Parish, or school. If you receive such a scam text or email, please do not respond, and immediately contact the Diocese, Parish, or school directly!

March for Life, Washington D.C., Jan. 22-23, 2026

The March for Life is the largest annual human rights demonstration in the world. Every January, tens of thousands of pro-lifers converge in Washington, D.C. and march on Capitol Hill. Diocesan priest celebrates 5^th anniversary of ordination with Mass at Vatican

Father Franckel Fils Aime, a priest of the Diocese of Venice who is currently studying in Rome, had the blessing to celebrate the fifth anniversary of his priestly ordination during a Mass at St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican, on June 27, 2025, the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The Mass was celebrated by Pope Leo XIV, and included the ordination of 32 priests. Father Fils Aime most recently served as Parochial Vicar at St. Peter the Apostle Parish in Naples before beginning his studies in Rome. He described the experience as a “grace from Heaven to study, and especially studying to serve God’s people.”

Avon Park parishioner honored for volunteering and service

Debbie Augusta, of Our Lady of Grace Parish in Avon Park, was recently named the Salt & Pepper Award recipient for community service and volunteerism at the Senior Connections Center Rise & Shine awards ceremony in Tampa on May 20, 2025. According to the award announcement, Augusta was recognized for her remarkable leadership, compassion, and unwavering commitment to the people of Our Lady of Grace and beyond. She has been a positive presence in the community, volunteering her time to support and uplift others. She has led the Women’s Guild, and Parish Council, and brings people together with purpose and heart by leading a variety of fundraisers, food festivals, and other charitable drives. Her service is rooted in relationship building, hands-on care, and leading by example. Congratulations and well done Debbie!

Children Throughout the World Need Our Help!

The Trump Administration is terminating all but two of Catholic Relief Services’ school feeding programs, eliminating a daily school meal for close to 800,000 children in 11 countries beginning in July. For many, this was their only meal of the day. These terminations aren’t just broken agreements with CRS. They are broken promises to children, to farmers, to entire communities. Volunteers Needed for Prison Outreach

Join the team of Diocesan volunteers who enter county jails and state prisons within the 10-county Diocese of Venice to do pastoral outreach, distribute the Eucharist and facilitate programs. Volunteers will first participate in an orientation program before entering the facility and will shadow experienced volunteers until they feel comfortable. Times and days vary by facility. Totus Tuus summer program still going strong

The Diocese of Venice Totus Tuus summer program continues to inspire young people to develop a closer relationship with Jesus Christ. The week-long summer camp program is visiting different Parishes each week and offering camp for students entering grades 1 – 6, as well as for middle school and high school students entering grades 7 – 12. Three missionary teams are leading the campers. In the first four weeks, the program has taken place at 10 Parishes, with the most recent Ave Maria in Ave Maria and St. Jude in Sarasota. Following the Fourth of July holiday, the program resumes at the following: St. Cecilia, Fort Myers; Our Lady of Light, Fort Myers; St. John XXIII, Fort Myers; St. Thomas More, Sarasota (July 6-11); St. Joseph, Bradenton; Epiphany Cathedral, Venice; Our Lady Queen of Heaven, LaBelle (July 13-18); Our Lady of the Angels, Lakewood Ranch; St. Peter the Apostle, Naples (July 20-25). Diocese and Parish honored for Pro-Life work in Sarasota

The Diocese of Venice Respect Life Office and Incarnation Parish staff in Sarasota were recognized for their work in support of Pro-Life initiatives in the community during the Sarasota Ministerial Association “24^th Anniversary Celebration,” June 19, 2025, at St. Armands Key Lutheran Church in Sarasota. Among those recognized were Tavia Ames, Diocesan Respect Life Director, Father Eric Scanlan, Pastor of Incarnation Parish, Deacon Kevin McKenney, of Incarnation Parish and the board of Sarasota Family Promise, and Lisa Russo, Incarnation Parish secretary. Presenting the honor was Art Reilly, past board chair of Sarasota Medical Pregnancy Center.

Independence Day bike and golf cart parade to be held in Ave Maria

The Knights of Columbus Assembly 3862 of Ave Maria Parish in Ave Maria is hosting is 9th annual “God Bless America: Independence Day Bike and Golf Cart Parade.” The opening ceremony will take place in the Piazza in front of Ave Maria Parish church with the parade, led by fire trucks, immediately following. All are welcome to attend and encouraged to decorate their bicycles, tricycles, golf carts, skateboards, and strollers. The route is approximately 2 miles long, but a shorter route, around the church, is available for younger riders. Light refreshments, including birthday cake for the Nation, will be available at the conclusion of the parade.

Totus Tuus summer program continues

The Diocese of Venice Totus Tuus summer program continues to inspire young people to long for holiness, develop a deep desire for conversion and personally renew their faith with a stronger prayer life. The week-long program is visiting different Parishes each week and offering day camp for students entering grades 1 – 6, as well as evening camp for middle school and high school students entering grades 7 – 12. Parish hosts Mission Week

St. Michael Parish in Wauchula hosted a Parish Mission Week the week of June 2-7, 2025. The week included daily prayer, reflection and trips to different locations to be true missionaries of Christ in the world. The outreach included visiting a nursing home as well as the homebound and needy throughout Hardee County. A Family Day on June 8 which included food, entertainment and music concluded the week. The Parish Mission was organized by the Servant Sisters of the Virgin of Matara who serve at the Parish. Visiting members of the religious order also assisted throughout the week.

Knights elect new State officers

The Florida Knights of Columbus have elected new officers, including Deacon Richard Dahn Jr., of St. Agnes Parish in Naples as State Treasurer. Father Bob Kantor, Pastor of St. Agnes Parish, serves as the State Chaplain for the Knights. The election results were announced May 25, 2025, at the 121st annual Florida State Council Convention in Jacksonville.

Sarasota Parish to host Brazilian Festival July 14

St. Jude Parish, 3930 17th St., Sarasota, is hosting a Festa Junina Brasilera (Brazilian Festival), from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m., June 14, 2025. The festival will include food, live music, kids’ games and other activities. St. Jude Parish is also having a Drive Away Raffle for one lucky person to win a 2025 Jeep Wrangler. Tickets are $100 and available in the Parish office or online at www.stjudesarasota.org and must be purchased by noon on Sunday, June 15. All raffle proceeds will benefit the new church building fund.

Bishop confers confirmation on prison inmates

Bishop Frank J. Dewane conferred the Sacrament of Confirmation upon four inmates in the Diocese of Venice in June 2025. Three were confirmed at Charlotte Correctional Institute in Punta Gorda on June 1, and one at the Hardee Correction Institute in Bowling Green on June 2. When celebrating the Mass for the incarcerated, Bishop Dewane emphasized that he is bringing the forgiveness, mercy, compassion, peace, love and joy of the Lord to others and took time to speak with the inmates after the Mass. Each year, the Bishop celebrates Mass for inmates at different facilities throughout the 10-county Diocese, and has conferred the Sacraments of Confirmation, First Communion and Baptism for dozens of inmates since 2006. The Diocesan Prison Ministry provides a variety of services, including Bible study, TV Mass, religious education and assistance with receiving the Sacraments. Within its boundaries, the Diocese has five state prisons, 10 county jails and one civil commitment program. There are approximately 15,000 incarcerated within the Diocese; meaning the need for priests and volunteers is great. Two schools join Knights in helping migrant farm workers

St. Mary Academy and St. Martha Catholic School in Sarasota worked together on a service project and collected 250 long sleeve shirts for Falkner Farm migrant workers in Myakka. These shirts are vital in protecting workers from pesticides getting on their skin. The schools worked with Knights of Columbus Holy Cross Council 7414 of Palmetto, ensuring the success of the collection drive. The school donations were combined with donations from Holy Cross Parish and other Knights councils and totaled more than 1,000 long sleeve shirts.

Bishop leads Diocesan staff in honoring to Mary, Our Blessed Mother

May is a special month in the Church, dedicated to Our Blessed Mother. Bishop Frank J. Dewane led the Catholic Center staff in prayer and song on May 1, 2025, in Venice, at a special prayer service in honor of the Virgin Mary. The faithful of the Diocese of Venice are encouraged to honor the Blessed Virgin Mary all month, and to celebrate Mary’s example which inspires us to grow in faith, hope, and love. May our prayers to her, and through her intercession, bring us closer to her earthly son, the Son of God, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Students learn about the Conclave

Ahead of the Papal Conclave, which began at the Vatican on May 7, 2025, students at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic School in Naples took part in a mock Conclave on May 6. This was a unique opportunity for the students to learn about the process the Cardinal electors go through when voting for the successor of St. Peter. The event included a detailed explanation of the process from Religion Teacher Jeff Tenbarge and Father Casey Jones, Pastor of St. Elizabeth Seton Parish. Older students gathered for an explanation and a visual demonstration of how the Cardinals process into the Sistine Chapel and vote along with the meticulous verification process involving Scrutineers and Revisers. The rest of the school then gathered outside of the school’s administrative building – a mock St. Peter’s Square – to see the white smoke announcing a new Holy Father. An eighth grader played the part of the newly elected Pope. This was a fun event and great learning experience for all as this process takes place very infrequently.

Priest speaks to eighth graders about Vocations

Father David Portorreal, Parochial Vicar at St. Leo the Great Parish in Bonita Springs, was a guest speaker on May 6, 2025, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic School in Fort Myers. Father Portorreal spoke to the eighth-grade students about Vocations. Father explained that each student is old enough to start thinking about their future. Priesthood, religious life, sacramental marriage, and consecrated single life are the four vocational options for young people today. As they grow and mature in their faith, Father Portorreal stressed the need for them to keep an open mind, but more importantly an open heart in hearing the call of God in their lives.

Theology on Tap May 15 in Sarasota

Calling all young adults! Come enjoy an evening of faith, fellowship and fun at Theology on Tap on the third Thursday of every month. The May 15, 2025, gathering will feature a talk by Father Leland Thorpe, OMV, who assists at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Retreat Center in Venice. The talk is titled “Behold Your Mother: Thoughts on Mary in Mary’s Month.” Theology on Tap is a program for young adults in their 20s and 30s, providing an opportunity to explore faith topics in a relaxed social setting. St. Mary Academy Golf Tournament May 18

St. Mary Academy is hosting their 12th Annual Golf Tournament with a shotgun start at 1 p.m., May 18, 2025, at University Park Country Club, 7671 The Park Blvd, Sarasota. This is a best-ball tournament, and the cost is $150 per player. Participants will receive a goody bag, drinks, snacks, prizes, awards, and a sit-down BBQ dinner buffet. The event supports St. Mary Academy, which educates students with special learning needs. Vocations talk inspires young women

Bishop Verot Catholic High School in Fort Myers hosted a visit on April 16, 2024, from Sister Maria Nikipoia, a perpetually professed Sister of the Servants of the Lord and the Virgin of Matará (SSVM). Sister Nikipoia recently came to Florida after ministering in Guyana for 5 years and currently she ministers at St. Michael Parish in Wauchula. Sister spoke to the students about how to discern God’s will for our lives, specifically our vocation. Students were able to ask questions of Sister Nikipoia regarding religious life and the work of her Religious Order.

Charities fun day includes special visit

The Remake Learning Days Family Fun Day for residents of Casa San Juan Bosco, a farmworker housing community in Arcadia run by Catholic Charities, Diocese of Venice, Inc., took place April 20, 2024. There were games, food and information booths. There was also the surprise arrival of a Florida Department of Forestry helicopter landing in the soccer field. The two pilots answered many questions and allowed the children to climb up and into the helicopter.

New playground equipment wows students

If the pre-school and kindergarten students at St. Catherine Catholic School in Sebring are any judge, the newly installed playground equipment is a hit. The playground for pre-school and kindergarten students received an upgrade in early April 2024 with woodchips serving as a soft surface and interactive equipment with a combination slide and educational portal. The equipment was made possible thanks to the PTO (Parent Teacher Organization), as well as individual donors.

Vocation Discernment Retreat May 11 in Cape Coral

A Vocations Discernment Retreat is taking place beginning at 10:30 a.m., May 11, 2024, at St. Katherine Drexel Parish, 1922 SW 20th Avenue, Cape Coral. If you are of high school or college age, or a young adult, and wish to discover more about different vocations, plan to attend this one-day Retreat. The day will include breakfast, lunch and dinner, the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass and presentations regarding the different Vocations. Priests, as well as religious men and women will be present throughout the day. This retreat is co-sponsored by the Diocese of Venice Vocations Office and St. Katharine Drexel Parish. Fun, faith and fellowship were part of the monthly Theology on Tap outreach to young adults on April 18, 2024, at the Mandeville Beer Garden in Sarasota. Bishop addresses young adults

Theology on Tap offers an innovative solution to one of today’s most pressing pastoral concerns: how to reach out to young Catholic adults.

Gatherings, coordinated by Diocese of Venice Evangelization Office, are held on the third Thursday of each month at the Mandeville Beer Garden in downtown Sarasota, just a few blocks from St. Martha Parish. The bar includes an outdoor deck which offers the ideal location for fellowship and a discussion about the Faith in a comfortable and relaxed setting.

Bishop Frank J. Dewane was the featured speaker for the gathering on Dec. 21, 2023. Nearly 50 listened intently as the Bishop shared his thoughts on the Catholic Church within the Diocese of Venice.

Bishop Dewane spoke about the sad reality that many young Catholic adults are not regularly attending Mass, noting how those present were obvious exceptions. He encouraged those gathered to invite their friends to Mass.

“Perhaps, couch it as an offer of a coffee or meal afterward,” the Bishop said. “Even if they express reluctance, or say no, that offer alone can be enough to ignite a fire in the soul that might have gone out. The Catholic Church has such a beauty to offer, you can be the conduit to help reveal the love of the Lord to your friends. I can go out and ask, but coming from you, their friends, it will have much greater resonance.”

Taking place in the waning days of Advent and the expectant Nativity of the Lord, Bishop Dewane said it was a good time to reset one’s faith life and work to grow closer to the Lord through participation in the celebration of Mass, partaking in the Sacrament of Reconciliation, prayer and participation in Eucharistic Adoration.

The Bishop also spoke about Fiducia Supplicans, a document from the Vatican’s Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith published Dec. 18, 2023, which stated “blessings are among the most widespread and evolving sacramentals” and that it is possible to give “blessings for couples in irregular situations and for couples of the same sex.”

Bishop Dewane clarified that the declaration clearly states that the Church’s teaching on marriage between one man and one woman has not changed and emphasizes that such blessings should “never” occur within the ceremony of a civil union “and not even in connection with them” to avoid confusion or scandal.
